Did a run Down Genoa peak road a few weeks back and loved it. Amazing two-day trail with many offshoots including the plane crash memorial. I recommend 4x4 with tires but the trail is otherwise pretty mellow. The trail is marked on OB Map for all to get to the trailhead. North access is via a road behind the vehicle depot for USFS. South access is from the neighborhoods north of Heavenly ski area. This trail also links with access to the Tahoe Rim Trail for day hiking. views from 90% of the trail are fantastic. Camping is allowed 100yards from the road in any location. Again the offshoots offer many great spots to camp.

Good point. Tahoe gets a ton of snow for those who are unaware.
The gates also stay locked well into the spring to early summer, even after all the snow is melted to allow the mud to dry off. Its open to snow mobile however, and there is some fun backcountry ski/snowboarding to be had there.
