After parking my K5 and going into a 98 Forested S I'm now jumping into a 98 Chevy Tahoe that's been my daily for 2 years now. Doing everything as low cost as possible. Starting with my headlight mod. For as long as I've been around GM has it set up that when your high beams are on your low beams are off, leaving a dead spot in front of your truck. With a fuse block I pulled from a old project and a relay w/ pigtail from the auto parts store ($26) I now have quad high beams.
Not the project I wanted to do, ( I was going to build my rear storage ) but it needed to be done. Went from 245/75R16's to 265/75R16's with wheels I found online for $160. More ground clearance and looking better. The the 20 year old radiator started leaking engine oil, and the 20 year old windshield wipers motor went out in the rain. I replaced the wiper transmission with the motor, it is also 20 years old and had a lot of play in it.
Me too. My wife just had her pacemaker replaced Tuesday, so it may be a bit before I get her out. But if you want to check out our trip to central Utah ( thats when the radiator started to leak ) check out Forgotten History
Seems like this 20 year old truck is going to drive me to the funny farm. The plan was to build my rear storage or a roof rack before going out on Skyline Drive, however 3 weekends before going on the trip the planetary in my T-case gave way at 75 mph on I-15. I was able to find a replacement online but after installing it I could hear output bearing chatter. So on the Wednesday before the trip I pulled the T-case after work, rebuilt it, reinstalled it, and drove home. had on problems on the trail and everything worked out. The trip was a blast and met some good OLB people.
So I built the roof rack and we did get out 2 more times, I'll be posting more on that. It was a crazy summer and a lot of fun, starting with the 53 GMC I picked up and have been restoring with my grandpa.
