I'm ready to get out of this heat and to higher altitudes.
This will be my first trip to Cloudcroft and planning to do dispersed camping in one of the many free public lands.
It weather will be much cooler so plan accordingly.

Oh, man! I’ll be missing you by a week or two! Headed down to that area for work and wanted to check it out myself. Let me know if you find any good spots!

Do you have a planned route for the 600 miles, and possibly GPS tracks?
I'm interested in going, but would like more info.

You raise a great point regarding the 600 miles. When I created the event, it asked for mileage and my brain automatically assumed the distance from home:grinning:. I updated it to reflect a much lower number. No itinerary or maps, just want to check out the area.
To be honest, I have no idea on the conditions of the roads. I've never been but I am planning to camp south of town on Pumphouse Canyon Rd. From what I have seen from pics and videos posted by others, an Outback should do fine. These are mostly forest service roads. I wasn't planning on doing any serious off-roading.
