My background is still photography. I understand the appeal of the DSLR. High-resolution - Shallow depth of field - Better choice and quality of lenses. However, even with the advances in auto focus (like with the Canon 70D), I still find them clumsy, for shooting video. Mostly due to :

1. Having to change lenses to get the shot you want.
2. Having to carry multiple lenses.
3. Having to carry a second device to record balanced audio.
4. Bad ergonomics (front heavy)
5. Limitations in record time.
6. Inability to use higher capacity batteries.

What are your thoughts?

20160901_191417.jpg We tried doing video with our D5300 but it was too clumsy. We invested in a Sony XA30 right before our big "Enchanted Rockies Trail" mapping expedition and absolutely love it.
We also shoot video with our Galaxy S6's, GoPro Hero 4, and Yuneec Q500+ drone with CGO3 4K camera on a gimbal.

That's a great camera/set of cameras. My system has evolved over the past few months. Here's where I am currently...
I really like the monopod set up. I can use it as a tripod or monopod, and it works pretty will as a camera stabilizer for handheld work.

I had a sony hi8 years ago, too heavy to lug around I always felt

I prefer my DSLR....

I hate to admit it, lately its been the cell phone for still & video

I have a Gopro hero2, but hardly ever use it any more

its amazing how cell phones have evolved when all is said and done

Phones have great cameras. The iPhone 7 Plus is supposed to be spectacular!

I currently use a number of cameras,

a nikon coolpix bridge camera - ok for stills and video but a bit clumsy
a go pro hero 3 - great for just fixing to the windscreen or outside of the vehicle. It also goes onto my drone.
Main camera is my iPhone 6 plus.

My brother is a CAA qualified drone pilot and uses the new DJI Osmo - a hand held camera that sits on a gimbal that takes care of any camera shake. It is very impressive and perfect for overlanding when we maybe going over corrugated trails, rock crawling, or just generally going for a run. He also has the same camera and gimbal on his DJI Inspire. I am looking at getting the osmo instead of replacing my nikon coolpix for DSLR.
