OLB gang, I have installed a dual battery system for my 2015 Tacoma. I am looking at batteries and wanted to know which batteries are good for a second battery? I know as much as get a group 31 type battery and that's about it. What are your experiences with batteries and which are good options and which are not. Thanks!

I am running two AGM batteries from Advance Auto. Not a matched pair, but a pair with matched chemistry. My only recommendation is to buy the highest capacity AGM battery that fits where it needs to go and fits your budget.

how are your battery's wired? do you have an isolater or they hooked up parallel?
if parallel you should get 2 new batts of the same kind. if you have an isolater in there, run whatever you want.
in parallel putting a new batt against an old one, the new one will always compensate for the old one and cause it to run hot or overheat.
i have dual batts in my truck, parallel wired with a shut-off on 1 batt for when the camper is on.
and i currently need new batts myself.
had Optima's on there, normal service (8yrs), but super expensive (need 2...:grimacing:)
last time i just used 2 wallymart rv/marine batts and i got 9 yrs out of them.
for that length of service and price, you know where my new batts are coming from, don't need to drop huge bucks on a supercalifragilistic brand, horribly overpriced when i can get the same or better life for cheaper
Thanks! I have a national Luna power pack. It has all the isolaters/solenoids built in. I wondered if I could get a new battery for it and keep my old battery for the truck or would I have to get 2 new batteries that matched.

I am running dual odyssey batteries (both fit in stock battery space) with a Kodiak control system. Works amazingly well with my 110 w solar panels and dometic fridge.
