Bend, Oregon to Lake Tahoe - Early October route ideas

Planning a route to Lake Tahoe from Bend Oregon in early October. Of course want to stay off pavement as much as possible. Any suggestions or specific places to see/camp along the way? Starting a GAIA route to get things going - GaiaGPS - Bend to Lake Tahoe

Haven't done it, but there is the Oregon Backcountry Discovery Routes which may be fun. Looking at the route you currently have laid out, you could probably follow some of it.

You might hit up @Narbob the Director for OB Region West to find out who the member representative is for the California sections of your trip, as well as post over in US Region West. You might get a little better traction.
@JL Lou was just down in that area, I don’t know what route he took to get there and back though.
