Found this combination style barrel bolt lock on amazon and figured I’d give it a shot.
I mounted it to the tailgate with four stainless #10-32 security head machine screws, washers, and nylock nuts. I used a bit of epoxy putty to build up the gap between ridges on the upper outboard side of the tailgate so there would be a solid surface to mount the lock to.
Drilled a hole into the steel housing that the tail lights mount in to line up with the bolt of the lock.
So far, so good. The line up of the hole and bolt are good enough that there is zero slop in the tailgate, and it feels super solidly locked.
