Northern CA: May Mid-Week Hollister Hills Trip

Sooo- I was driving the Jeep around last night with my son.... and it just DIED! It was like I ran out of gas. My gas gauge in not working right now, so I thought maybe I miscalculated my mileage. So, I put about two gallons from my jerry can in the tank. I cranked it for as long as I...

    SW Idaho Overlanding

Idaho is high on my list for retirement locations. We have some distant relatives that live there and they constantly rave about how wonderful it is. My wife has some pretty strict criteria though. She's shot down several of my other candidates. I want an alpine location but high on her list...

Northern CA: May Mid-Week Hollister Hills Trip

Definitely interested. I haven't been to Hollister since I twisted my front drive-shaft there years ago! I'm off Monday and Tuesday that week.

    Vehicle Intercom

It appears you can wear ear plugs for hearing protection, but not a headset (IN CALIFORNIA). It also seems that you could wear a headset over one ear, and an ear plug in the other. Here's the actual California code section: 27400. A person operating a motor vehicle or bicycle may not wear...

    Cal4Wheel Events

I just got my Cal4Wheel newsletter and they had several California runs advertised. I've been on a couple of their runs before, and they were always well organized and run events. There's one at Hollister SVRA that caught my eye. I tried to scan the pages to upload here. We'll see how it...

    California Gas Tax Repeal Petition

For those of us that live in California, you know that Sacramento just raised the "gas tax" and the "registration tax" on our vehicles. This is after they have siphoned away all the current transportation tax revenue for NON-transportation pet projects. I encourage you to sign and send in...

Any one run 2 sets of tires? One for Daily driver and one for Overlanding?

I did on my Jeep CJ until recently. I had one set of mud terrains and one set of all-terrains. Same theory as those who have to switch to winter tires. Randy

Ground, Cot or Air Mattress: Make and model please.

Coming from backpacking, I always just used a ground pad. As I've aged, my ground pad got thicker. The latest car camping trip, I had TWO pads stacked on top of each other. Sooooo, I graduated to a camp cot. I'm not a small guy, so I went with the TETON UNIVERSAL LE : I also use the...

    Camp Pizza

Pizza is a frequently requested item when camping with the kids. I use a camp dutch oven, which we already have because we do much of our cooking in it. I place a trivet down, then put the dutch oven lid upside down on the trivet. The pizza goes on the inside of the lid, and the "pot" of...

    '85 Jeep CJ7 - Let's get this party started

Have you looked into a complete wiring harness like the Painless Wiring Kit? Based on what I see from you pictures, it looks like your electrical is a "gut and replace" situation. I also replaced my distributor with an HEI. Simplified the wiring and improved performance. Randy

    Cliff Jumping

I'm interested in the "Tubs" spot as well. Can you PM me with details? How challenging is the 4WD trail? Thanks!

    Plow Disc Cooking

I made a Dutch Oven stand out of a plow disc and three legs of pipe. I'm sure you could use the same design to make a plow disc cooker. The pipe end is welded or drilled and bolted on to the plow disc. Then you attach legs of whatever length suits your needs. When you're done...
