For traveling, here's a sample screenshot from our trip last year, showing potential camp spots (imported from iOverlander, dark green being official or semi-official places, light green are "wild-camping" spots):
Circling back to this topic. For traveling I found OsmAnd with imported iOverlander data pretty much exactly what I was looking for. It actually does have a good amount of non-paved roads in many areas, works world-wide (with different data granularity), is 100% offline, navigation is fine, is...
The little things I can reconfigure. For example:
It’s easy to move remove the bear container, replace with a 5 gallon NATO. can, move the Shovel to a better place and replace the small Pelican with a single larger one. That takes care of the rear door, bear containerr, and Rotopax
AluCab tent...
We've been overall pretty happy with OsmAnd with iOverlander data imported for wherever we're going. I wrote a data converter for this and it has worked now surprisingly well for a few trips, including two months in Canada/Alaska:
The green tent symbols are for the various types of camp spots...
Hi folks,
we are traveling to NZ in December and have rented a camper. The camper is certified self contained (green sticker).
Now, I'm trying to find out where I can actually camp with this. My first understanding is "everywhere, unless it's restricted or prohibited", either by DOC or by...
So, I've checked shipping cost and it's just outrageous. This unfortanetly leads to make this an in-person only. I'm happy to go on a roadtrip in California to bring it closer to you, but it looks like shipping is near impossible for larger items and private persons these days.
From a real life perspective:
We just came back from a two months trip to Canada and Alaska. We've used the induction cooktop all the time. Same with the electric kettle. We also used the inverter to charge our electric toothbrush and a few other things that aren't 12V or USB capable. We often...
FYI: I made some changes, started input and output validation, and a lot of other cleanup. So, you might want to do a pull on the repository before you really start looking at the code. There should be zero change in the actual conversion, but the code is cleaner and it should be slightly more...
Makes sense. I'm very happy with the Kickass Travel Oven for my usecase. It takes forever, but I don't care. It runs while I'm driving, or I start a cook when I get to the camp and have dinner later. It just works for us.
The two problems with this is: it's MASSIVE, very large compared to the simple travel oven (e.g. Kickass) and it is massively complex. Run this thing over a few thousand miles of corrugated roads and you can probably open a new Fry's electronic parts store ...
We would have had absolutely zero...
