Hi. West TN here. Been to LBL a few times including a Jeep Jamboree many years ago. I usually head to the Ozarks or Ouachita's in Arkansas when I am getting away for a few days.
Many can be quite deep if it has rained recently. I was out there last year on January 2nd and 3rd. The water at the fords I came to was moving very fast and looked to be much deeper than when I was there in the summer. Use caution of it has rained within a week prior to your visit.
There are several dispersed camping sites around Wildcat Mountain on FS-132. The Ouchitas are full of dispersed camping sites though, so I am sure you will find something.
I drove that tunnel two weeks ago. Water was no more than 12-18 inches deep then. I am surprised someone broke something in there. It wasn't very technical or extremely rough. The trail back up and out, if you don't turnaround and go back through, looked pretty rough though.
There are a lot of dispersed sites along the Lindsey Motorway in the Ozark NF. Other than the water crossings on the west end, it is not very difficult. I cannot comment about the water crossings as they were very high when I was there in January and I did not try to cross.
Kanab Point on the North Rim is beautiful and does not require a National Park permit. When we went, the winds were very high and so we ended up camping about a mile in from the rim in the forest. If the wind is down, there are several great options at Kanab Point to camp right on the rim.
Lots of great dispersed camping in the Ozarks. For tracks/trips, check out Ozark Overland Adventures . Matt has done a lot of exploring of the area and keeps tracks of his trips.
We dropped Zion from the itenerary. Recommended by others to drop because it was too crowded. And honestly, it was out of the way from the rest of what we wanted to see.
I know exactly what you mean. Unfortunately, due to the distance and time just to get from Memphis to there, and the fact my friend and I only get to do this every 5 years, we tend to cram a lot in. There will be plenty of stops for photos, enjoying the scenery, etc. That's also why we are...
Thank you. Would appreciate any input and/or suggestions.
Current plans are as follows:
Day 1 - Leave Memphis
Night 1 - Santa Rosa, NM on way from Memphis
Day 2 - Santa Rosa to Valley of the Gods
Night 2 - Valley of the Gods or Muley Point
Day 3 - Valley of the Gods to Alstrom Point
Night 3 -...
Great information! Thank you all for the feedback. I appreciate the suggestions and any more that anyone cares to share. I need to talk with the other guy going with me as he was really wanting to go to Zion and to Bryce. I know we both really have the Alpine Loop, Imogene, and Yankee Boy on our...
Thanks. I know it's a lot and I'm certainly willing to cut some of needed. I should have stated that we have been to Moab and Ouray multiple times including two round trips on the white rim, once in the full Alpine loop, but up Engineer many times. We are trying to go to some new places in Utah...
I'm planning a trip from my home in the Memphis, TN area for the 2nd and 3rd weeks of Sept to Grand Canyon, Utah, and Colorado. Since it takes two days each way to get there and back, that leaves me 11 days to explore. I have a pretty good route started, but am hoping those more familiar could...
I'm very happy with it. It's really sharp and does very well in low light. Manual focus of course, but I'm usually shooting at infinity. I'll probably start using it for wide landscape shots as well due to its clarity. Not bad for a relatively cheap lens.
