I would suggest Lake pleasant. Off of I-80 there are seven lakes that are there. The first two have concrete roads and maintained camp grounds. The trail and route get progressively harder once you go up to each lake. It would be beautiful that time of year and cooler than CA.
I would advise a canvas square bag. Weight isn’t an issue since your overlanding. If you ever end up in a very cold environment and need the bag as a throw by the fire, canvas won’t get an immediate hole like these “ new” bags. Just my two cents.
