    Ham radio????

That's interesting. Should note DPRS is not APRS and just sort of pretends to be APRS. Not knocking it, but it is NOT APRS. And not to complicate matters, but there's a hotspot out there now called OpenSpot3 that can piggyback off of your cell signal and be your digital repeater, so if you...

    Ham radio????

For $399 you can get into an Icom-5100, which has so much more functionality, including digital, DPRS, nearby repeaters scan (that updates the scanned list via gps as you move), cross-band repeat, touchscreen, etc. If all someone wants is simplex, get a cheap HT. If you're getting a mobile...

    Rubicon

Hmmmm. Here's the business on a Recon. Don't accidentally pay extra for a badge on the fender. If it's a recon, it's a special edition and should have some special stuff. https://www.topspeed.com/cars/jeep/2017-jeep-wrangler-rubicon-recon-ar175832.html

    Rubicon

That is a Jeep JK, and the newer model (18-present) is a JL. The JKs had 2 different V6s, and it changed over about half way through production. The 17s have the preferred V6. It's a well proven motor. Personally, I think that looks like a very nicely equipped Jeep at that price...

    Ham Radio License

I was mostly referring to the high cost of good equipment. The only radio I have purchased is a Baofeng. The rest has been gifted or pass along due to somebody dying in the family. I prefer to have many hobbies that I can lightly enjoy. It feel like amateur radio is one that you need to...

    Camp entertainment

Pitching washers, playing music (guitar, harmonica, ukelele), playing cards, frisbee, battling mosquitos, Target practice (firearms), skipping rocks, catching frogs, fly fishing, playing with the dog... Basically, turn off your electronic devices...especially for the kids, and in a couple of...

    Ham Radio License

Nothing about HAM radio is fast or easy, except the actual radio transmission. I get the sense that the vast majority of HAMs like that, as it keeps the pleebs mostly at Bay. Unfortunately, the barriers to entry in this hobby are unusually high, compared other hobbies, which I think is the...

    Digital Ham Radio?

I am looking to purchase a new radio for my Jeep JL. I need a detachable face radio, and there are, of course, many options. I am weighing the benefits of getting a digital radio, but I am hesitant, based on the limited and (frankly, somewhat uninteresting) activity I see on Echolink. I'm...

    Ham Radio License

I recommend downloading the test questions, and learning the right answer. I watched a ton of videos on YouTube, but for the General, I'm taking a different approach.

Gas Lantern or Battery powered Lantern?

Personally, I feel like if you'd bring along that top shelf in your picture, no lanterns would be necessary to light the way!

Gas Lantern or Battery powered Lantern?

I'm 100% in on propane. I have an old simple 2 mantle Coleman, maybe 20 years old, and I replaced the glass with a screen. It's indestructible now. I have often forgotten batteries, or they've come up dead, but I've never been without propane. I also bought a " propane tree" that I mount to...
