US West Death Valley Western Tour October 22-25th 2020

Yup to both, in my case, @moonpatrol . Had a close call or two in the silt, for sure, but we were saved by the magic that is radio communication! between calling slowdowns and stops, and warning of head-on traffic, it was the chattiest part of the trip. And that's Steel Pass. I took my...

What's the most ridiculous part of your kit?

So, I recently backed a kickstarter for a portable hand-cranked single-outfit washing machine. It's a durable plastic rotary tub style agitator, and a drying drum. It washes and dries a drum load in five minutes. No electric parts, just spinning plastic with a hand crank. It's about a foot and a...

Ever try packing them with a small mesh bag of rice while they're not in use? And how often do you oil the stove?

    Malakoff/Diggins NorCal Trip

Day One was awesome. At our first stop there were weird toilets (read: four holes in a plank of wood) plus a cemetery and we almost got the Hanta Virus! At our second stop there was a pretty darn idyllic-looking mining town

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

I used to do a mean Fettucine in white wine crab sauce on backpacking trips, before Rho turned into a rabbit. Now it's all about the insane sandwiches. Garlic soft cheeses (think Alouette or Boursin) with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, cheddar, spicy mayo, avocado, and sprouts
