    The Perfect Camp Stove

I've taken my 17" Blackstone griddle camping. It works great depending on what you plan on cooking and you don't need to bring a pan. Just make sure you have something else to boil water. Nice they thought of that side-burner on the first stove.

    Claiming Dispersed Campsites

Essentially yes. A dispersed campsite, at least in CA, is first come first serve. If you see a spot but keep exploring, it could potentially be taken by anyone else. usually not a problem if you're far enough away from others but it could happen. That said, almost any spot in BLM/NF land can be...

    Requesting overlanding buddy/partner

Welcome Glen. Sounds like you've got the right attitude to get out there and just do it. Many folks have already suggested some great ideas. Taking baby steps is key. I even just go to a local campground to try new gear and stuff. It's close, easy, and if something doesn't quite work out, I'm...

How We Learn About the Places We Go

I might have some nature guide books with me and I'll see if I can find out about what I'm looking at while I'm looking at it. When I plan a route, if something shows on a map, I might look it up through google. If I find something interesting out in the wilds, I'll drop a pin on Gaia with a...

Goal: simple day to day life, small(ish), offroad capable – a Jeep Gladiator build

Curious to know your thoughts on that half-rack. This is the first one I've seen that's made to fit. I'm running an Ovrlnd Camper on my JT and it's a giant air dam. lol

    New Navigation Device iPad?

Timely thread since I've been looking at upgrading from my iPhone 6+. Yep! you read that right. A 6+. :tearsofjoy: Though I use my iPhone 15 as a back-up. I use Gaia almost exclusively. I like to keep my process simple. It has its bugs, but I definitely don't have the issues mentioned...

Also bring a chainsaw if you have one. Good chance of fallen branches and trees with all the rain we’ve had.

Bear Creek CG is a pretty good campground. I've hardly seen anyone there, they have pit toilets, and the creek runs year round. Probably going there this weekend.

We might have to cancel. Looks like they've closed that whole area because of the rains, and looking at the forecast I don't see any real period of no rain this week. https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DOCUMENTS/fseprd1160621.pdf

Cedar Camp is gone. Burned down during one of the fires. Last I drove by, the road leading up to it was overgrown.

And why I never camp around there, and still don't know the draw of that place. Last summer I came across a fatal SxS crash right there on the north side. Rescue chopper was just getting there, but you could tell the guy was already dead. On a better note, I would continue west on Bartlett...

I added the route. I think we should be good as far as snow goes, though we might hit some. depending on how much will fall between now and then. If there's less snow when we get there, than I think we can go higher.
