    Grand Staircase & Bears Ears.

That is the big issue with any of these areas (and pretty much everything else in our society). It seems that one group wants zero restrictions and anything goes, another wants it locked up completely. It seems we have become extremists in everything, there is no balance.

    Heading to CO/UT Sep 2nd.

It will be a long day but you can do it. You will need to start early. I would do them in the direction you posted, that way once you finish Corkscrew you can decide if you have time to do Ophir, likewise with Last Dollar after Ophir. I have done Silverton-Animas...

    Grand Staircase & Bears Ears.

All the Monument did was draw attention to the area and cause the traffic to quadruple! The whole argument for the monument assumes that somehow the government will magically come up with money to manage and police the area, which will never happen! One of the big reasons for it was to "protect...

US Rocky Mountain Colorado - Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, & More!

Camp where? There is camping along Corkscrew and the east side of Engineer. There really isn't any on Hurricane and California.

US Rocky Mountain Colorado - Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, & More!

I can definitely vouch for the suggestion to do California, Hurricane, and Corkscrew! Beautiful route! My wife and I always try to have lunch at Lake Como if it isn't too crowded.

Snow on Engineer Pass, Cinnamon Pass, or Imogene Pass in early July?

The county will have most trails open by July. I have seen Imogene and Black Bear open later (or not at all) but the rest will be open. Between them plowing the trails, the rain, and the huge amounts of traffic, you won't have snow on the trail.

Is the Overlanding community killing itself

Saying that the vloggers with very expensive rigs are killing the overlanding community is a bit of a stretch. Maybe some are put off, but that would be out of being to lazy to actually do research. I love music and I like a nice sounding system, however I can't spend 20K on a DAC. That doesn't...

    Member Rides

After 18 years it was time to replace the XJ. Picked up our new Gladiator from Peterson's in Nampa, ID two weeks ago. On the way home we did some easy trails, Long Canyon in Moab and Cinnamon Pass in Silverton, CO.

Poll: When you camp, do you normally have cell service?

If I have cell service I always feel like I haven't gone far enough.

    Daily Distance

Something that can help, is try and find videos or trip reports of what you are looking at driving. That will give you an idea of what conditions are like (be careful though, if the video is 5 years old the trail may be completely different). When I am traveling back east I to see go as fast as...

Budget Rigs for 10K and under?

The best advice is to wait. Used prices are ridiculous no matter what you are buying. The Chevy dealer across the street from my job offered me $5800.00 for my 2013 Impala! It is in great shape but I wouldn't pay that for it. And a lot of people are saying "buy an ancient Toyota with 260K on...

OB Approved Safety and Security While Traveling

Along with situational awareness is being willing to just move on. If you have even the remotest concern about a situation whether it is because of humans, animals, etc., just do something different. Sometimes we force things because we have traveled a long ways to visit an area but keeping...

    Alpine Loop Labor Day 2022

Do you want to base camp or camp somewhere different each day? We always base camp, you can reach every trail and be back in time for dinner from one location. If you don't already have it, get Charles Wells' book for the area. It is very good for planning your day and gives a good description...

Lockhart Basin UT - South to North?

You shouldn't have any issues with your rig. But if you are doing it solo you should definitely get an emergency communications device. Do you have an idea on the day you will be there?
