    Fab skills and DIY

Thank you. My parents have an old stick welder and a new Hobart 140? I believe it is. Grandparents and uncle have 4 or 5 welders and a small Miller hand plasma. We also have an offroad trailer that my father-in-law built. My future plans is to rebuild it and do it a little differently so...

Yeah my family has owned the runner since the early 2000s so I know most of its history. It has had a few of its own Gremlins through the years though. Transmission was just rebuilt after my brother stuff 35s under it, got stuck in snow, then took on transmission trying to get unstuck.. it...

Sadly there is no a welding class reasonably close to me... yet. BUT my company is helping sponsor a tech school that will include welding. I am not sure when it will open but I am going to try and get in to it when it does open. I am hoping they will let me use some of my tuition...

    Fab skills and DIY

Thanks yeah I am not sure I would weld or make my own sliders they are cheap enough I would probably have a shop do those.. Front and rear bumpers is where I question my skills. I can get front and rear bumper kits for just over $1000 or I can buy them welded for well over $2000.. The savings...

Looking for guidance from those more experienced than me.. I recently bought my old high school vehicle from my parents. 1997 4Runner. Its days of long trips are done for a while I work on maintenance and getting it back into shape. Curious everyones thoughts. I want to turn it more into a...

What justifies the expense for a rooftop tent?

*disclaimer* I am not trying to be a dick. Every time I say this peoples undies get ruffled. If you can not see a benefit to owning a RTT it is likely not for you. Go with your gut/instinct/feelings. Start basic and go from there. That being said I love owning a RTT. I grew up "boon...

Looking to replace lunette ring on M116 trailer

We have an M116 trailer build. It sitll has the heavy surge brake lunette ring on the tongue. I would like to move away from that unit and cut some tongue weight. I am unable to do the work on my own currently and not having luck finding a local weld shop wanting to mess with it. I had...

    Model..Overlanding

I will check them out! I wish I was halfway capable of painting and finishing a model because some of their builder kits are kind of cool!

    Model..Overlanding

Thanks. Right now I just want something to play with. No major long term plans but if stuff starts breaking I want to be able to upgrade it. IE plastic parts. At the same time I dont want to end up sinking another $500 in upgrades haha.

    Model..Overlanding

All the stay at home orders may make me getting a little scale rig. Since selling my MTN bike there isnt much I can do outside while staying "quarantined". Question for those who know better would the Axial scx10ii honch or an RC4wd be a better starting point? The axial likely has a better...

What is your Overlanding Pet Peeve?

People that shit in the woods right around a camp spot and leave their toilet paper to blow in the wind or my dog to find.

    Fake Overlanding?

Kind of tired of the "overlanding scene" because its just a big competition. In the US its an odd mixture of offroaders and campers all trying to outcompete to see who truly is the most #overlandasf%^#. I dont really call what I do overlanding, even though the way I do it is in true...

Show me a Road Sign.....really any sign...

Kind of giggled when I saw this. Not in the middle of no where but deffinately not a heavily trafficked road.

    Bear proofing?

They are just like black bears except bigger, and they cant climb trees. Could have sworn I'd seen a statistic that said black bears attacked more humans than Grizzlies. Not sure if that was all brown bear species compared to black bears or specifically grizzlies.

    Bear proofing?

This. A few years ago Montana had a problem Grizzly bear in an area that was purposefully attacking tents. The area was shut down to camping unless you had a hard side trailer. Locals will know and warn of something like this. You may not see the warning that's posted if you are just...

    Bear proofing?

Never found a decent reply to this topic. You see all of these people running $30k trailers and they are cooking sausage and bacon on the trailer then storing everything inside of it with their RTT on top. You also see people hauling fridges/freezers in their rig but you never see them...

Dirt Bikes: Anyone else throw one on/in the back?

There are plenty of short riders, I am only 6' with a 32" inseam. Any competent mechanic can also lower a bike ~2". This lady rides a full size 2 stroke. Her 4 stroke is lowered 2". Link to Youtube
