As a kid we had to hike to campsites. Usually at least a few hours to get there from trailhead. You ate what you carry in your backpack. Individual boxes of cereal, powered milk, canned foods, MREs, etc. There was a mountain steam at my favorite that was clean we could use as a water source.

I'll have to try and grab a fishing license on Thursday so I can come out.
