A fantastic Overlanding book is Road Fever by Tim Cahill. It documents his travel from Tierra del Fuego to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. His writing style is quite comical and very informative and the trip is one I’d love to attempt sometime.
In general I totally agree with this; however, I initially bought a different brand of inflators and they were absolute crap. Now I may have just picked up an bum set, but I have had zero issues with the Staun's.
I have driven with my Staun's on quite a few times. Never on the trail, but often times when meeting somewhere close to the trailhead then take them back off once I hit the trail and I'm ready to go. Definitely don't want to get on the trail with them still on and you wouldn't want to go more...
I used to run some trails in Colorado. We would meet up in a parking lot about 10 minutes from the trailhead. I'd screw all four on the valve stems, hop in the Jeep and head for the trail. At the trailhead I'd stop and remove the stauns and I was ready to roll.
