Yup, another 5th gen 4Runner...but pulling a DIY expedition camper

Struggling with the motivation these days. And maybe my brain isn't working as well as it used to. I knew I'd have to fit every piece, as the old frame is wonky, but I swear something has gone wrong with just about every step on this thing. Mostly me mis-measuring but I'm forgetting stuff too...

My DIY offroad utility (base camp) trailer

Cool. Just checking as mine doesn't have as much steel, but it's larger. I really don't know how much it weights right now...just hoping for the best.

Looking for recommendations - Roll up kitchen utensil storage

Hello all, My search skills seems to be failing me...or I'm using the wrong search words....but I can't seem to find much about roll-up kitchen utensil storage in the forums. There are a bazillion and one options out there so was hoping for some recommendations. I'd rather just hear what you...

    GPS connectivity help needed

So I was using a downloaded OnX map in the CO mountains, very intermittent cell service, and it seemed like it would only update my location when the infrequent cell connection happened. And more often than not, it was way off of my actual location. What am I missing? On an iPhone 13 Pro. Thank...

    GPS connectivity help needed

That helps a ton. Thank you! Yes to utilizing a mapping app on my phone/tablet. It would only be displayed on my car screen via CarPlay. Sounds like getting a puck is what I'm looking for. Thank you!

    Reaver's Squaredrop Camper Build!!

Nope, not a fan of frame grounding either. I'm going to run the buss up top, along with the power wires. The splice is a section cut out of the buss wire (much larger gauge,) the buss wires pulled apart at the center, the incoming wire fed through that hole, wrapped around and soldered, and then...

    Reaver's Squaredrop Camper Build!!

Very nice Reaver! I intend on running a ground buss down the length of my trailer and splicing grounds in wherever needed with soldered joints. But maybe that's more work than it's worth... My prior build had individual ground wires for each thing and it just seemed like way too many wires at...

    GPS connectivity help needed

Does Dual or Garmin require a subscription? Or is the service a one-time purchase with the unit? I don't see any mention of subscription fees but don't want to assume...

    GPS connectivity help needed

I can do all that but I'm curious about how y'all get full-time GPS connectivity for your mapping apps. I've seen some posts around here that imply it's a thing...

    GPS connectivity help needed

GPS noob here... I have a '23 4Runner, which itself has GPS connectivity, I think, but how do you get constant GPS connectivity to your mapping app like Gaia or OB1? Mine seems to only currently have it when I have cell service. Thanks!

Is badland recovery gear from Harbor Freight any good?

No. Harbor Frieght sells the Badlands brand and Apex is their heavy duty winch series name. HF = Badlands = Apex. They have other series for lighter applications.

Nice thread revive @Throlocks. I’m in Cheyenne too. Not so “free” as you, but if you plan something, I might be open. Can we skip the 307 stickers? Ha!

Yup, another 5th gen 4Runner...but pulling a DIY expedition camper

Very nice @irish44j! Thanks. I actually need to move my shovel mount. Can’t open the hatch with it there. It will likely fit right behind the spare though.

Those fancy mapping apps will not save you...

I suppose I'm most curious about which app does the best at the transition from the GPS functionality to none. Where I go there is no cell service/GPS connection more often than not. Looking at a mapping app on a phone is not conducive to success. Is that why a lot of you use tablets?

I think I’m finally done welding on this frankestinian monster. Put in the pieces to lift it 3” and reinforced the tongue today. Hadn’t touched it for a few weeks, but now it’s ready to paint once the weather warms up enough. Hopefully in a couple weekends.

    Dealing with other people's nasty

I ran across a disappointing mess at a camping/parking site in Pike National Forest this last weekend. I picked up what little I was willing to but I was not equipped to deal with their USED TOILET PAPER!! Just laying there on the ground. What. the. heck. (That's not the word I used then.)...

I like the festive wrap you have there, to go on the trailer. One of a kind! Except maybe your kids will keep tearing at it... :)

Those fancy mapping apps will not save you...

So I tried to exercise my mapping skills for a short trip this weekend and discovered I need more edumacation, or at least a reminder that we should not rely on the fancy GPS maps where we're exploring: Google Maps does not let you save a route. It will let you save locations, but not a route...
