    Portable fire pits

I use the bottom part of a Weber Smokey Mountain bullet style smoker. Sometimes we'll take the Weber Jumbo Joe portable charcoal grill, and I'll use that instead. They're not exactly portable, as in being able to fold flat and be stuffed into a pouch, but they're free since I already have them...

    Battery box or dual batteries?

I totally agree. Running a dual battery system mounted in the vehicle is definitely the way to go. I think the battery box is actually intended to be used on small boats for trolling motors and stuff. It still works great in a camping/overlanding setting, but lugging that thing around is a...

    Battery box or dual batteries?

Yeah it works great! Keep in mind though that mine is not a true sine wave inverter. Modified sine wave is basically ‘fake’ sine wave. I use it for a lot of things though, like led lighting, phone charging, laptop, sound system for drive in movies, etc, and have never had a problem. I don’t...

    Battery box or dual batteries?

This is my battery box, it's a 100Ah group 27 AGM that weighs like 90lbs. I attached a 1000w modified sine wave inverter to the outside of the box, and that's really the only thing I did to this thing. A big con to the battery box route, if you're planning to go with a big battery, is weight.

    Chasing the night

Thanks for the tips! Yeah I totally failed at posting my pic, can't figure out how to do it. EDIT: figured it out! I guess the image was too big.

    Chasing the night

By the way, this is pretty much the extent of my attempts haha. The moon was extremely bright this night, not sure if that affects the amount of stars visible in the sky. But if the moon wasn't out, I'm not sure how I would have gotten the foreground exposed at all...

    Chasing the night

Really amazing photos guys! I gotta ask, do you bracket the exposure and do HDR in post, or do you just take a single exposure? I've tried toying with starscape photography a couple of times, and every time I end up with crazy star trails or just very under exposed images. More importantly...

In search of: The Best Ground Tents

We have a Coleman 12 person? 10 person? Cabin tent that we got at Costco around 5 years ago for just under 200 bucks. We've done about 15 trips with it so far, and it's still working perfectly with no holes or leaks. Sometimes I wish that this tent would break or have problems so that I can get...

    Mobile install in Sequoia

My Tundra basically has the same center console/dash as your Sequoia, and my goodness I've been contemplating on mounting location options for my radio for at least 5 months now. I considered your solution before, but felt like it might get in the way of my leg or knee while driving. How's...

    Looking for a pop-up canopy

Oh that's a great idea, I'll have to do that next time instead of worrying all day haha

    Looking for a pop-up canopy

We use a Coleman 10x10. I think I got it at Costco a few years ago, but it's been one of the best things I've ever gotten for camping and overall outdoors activities. We get a whole lot of sun and not a lot of rain here in Southern California. We have had it in a crazy downpour of sudden rain...

    Review of the Clam Shelter

Thanks so much for this review. I’ve been back and forth with purchasing a clam pavilion shelter all week! Looks promising, but the cost has been keeping me from pulling the trigger. The wife really wants a screen shelter of sorts just to have a sanctuary hang out space from flies, yellow...

    Rtt and the dog?

I don't have a dog, but the annex (if you get a RTT with annex capability) might be a good spot for the doggo.

    Atlanta to Moab

My wife would totally freak out at the thought of even looking at that trail, let alone sit on it. Looks like an awesome trip!

The Search for the BEST Overland Camp Chair

These Tommy Bahama chairs from Costco They recline all the way back, like flat and parallel to the ground. I've taken naps in these with a small cooler as a foot rest. Not so great in terms of packability, but packs about as well as you might expect a typical lawn chair would. They are...

    Heating for sleeping

I think anything heating related with battery power will suck down the amps pretty quickly. An electric blanket might not be as bad as an actual heater or hot plate stove type of thing though.

    Camera Gear, Tires, and Secrets!

No prob! :D I do both video and pics; professionally I do mainly wedding videography but also do weddings and family photography. In my off-time, I'm usually pretty burnt out with videography (and all of the extra stuff/gear the comes with it), so I'm mostly doing stills for our family trips...

Seasoning a dutch oven or other cast iron pot or pan

That's a great tip, I'll have to try that!

Seasoning a dutch oven or other cast iron pot or pan

Yes, that is true. Definitely need to oil the iron afterwards. The patina is actually really really difficult to remove though, even with detergent. I had a skillet a long time ago (actually, still have it) that I had to "start over" with. I tried scrubbing and scraping the heck out of it...
