800 for a set of heads is on the cheap side... just had mine done on my Bronco... it was $1600 to get them each completely rebuilt. Would have cost a little more had their been a crack. I’m still skeptical on the 16 hours.
Why replace the radiator? It’s hold pressure, I see a whole lot of parts that aren’t 100% needed... why Fel-Pro Head gasket, intake gasket, water pump gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, when the whole set is $300.00 cheaper...
3 years warranty.... that shop (and the shops in your area) are rip...

Why a new engine? It’s a small crack in the head... cheaper to buy a head (or even a set of heads) than a new motor. You should be looking at about $1500-2000 to get the job done. You could do it yourself for under a grand.
I hear ya...this hobby sure eats up cash quickly....
So a set of points, some speaker wire, a ferrite bead from an old pc cord, a broken set of head phones and a speaker wire and you should be set... mount to a block of wood that you prettied up in your shop.... hmmm got me thinking... why not...

Depends on rig, and what the stock alternator is... with some alternators only being 35 amp units stock from the factory (my Bronco), you can’t add even a simple light because there isn’t enough reserve amps... so like I said you still have to look at how many amps the stock alternator puts...
I’ve been looking into building my own keyer. For the Icom IC-7100, it just uses a standard 2.5mm headphone jack. So shouldn’t be too hard to make the device...
So if you get a GRMS radio and get the license yes you can still talk to the FRS guys... this actually works quite well. Personally I don’t like walkie-talkies for vehicle to vehicle coms. I prefer a mounted radio, especially while off the pavement. Walkie-talkies are great for spotter to rig...
I need to start posting some of my antenna projects... tomorrow I’ll post my $100 fold over 25’ antenna mast/flag pole that can be packed up and taken anywhere in under 10 minutes.
