    What is it with axes?

In the PNW, during fire season chainsaws (gas or Electric) are restricted to times of the day, and when a certain fire level is reached can’t be used at all. Right now every Forrest in Oregon is in phase 3 so no chain saws until rain. (Exception is Rangers and fire crews).

New company building full size overlanding rigs.

The build posts are allowed, but not as advertising campaign. You might want to contact Corrie to work out a vender account some time in the future. I can’t wait to see what you can come up with.

    Who's more annoying?

Slow down. Take a deep breath, and slow down... that epic camp site will still be there 10 minutes later... speed up and you may never see it... those guys that about killed my wife and I on a blind corner.... well they crashed head on into the guy behind me who was in such a hurry to pass me...

    Who's more annoying?

The guy who owns the road, driving like a maniac over the tight northwest roads... several almost ran into me on blind corners a couple of weeks ago. Slow down people, the sights aren’t going away...and the destination isn’t going to move.

    What is it with axes?

The axe isn’t for cutting trees... it’s for digging trenches, snapping roots and making the ground easier to move with the shovel... also BLM requires it when traveling through BLM lands during fire season. In some National Forrests it’s also a fire tool requirement. Maybe @Kent R has some...

Tall grass is what they are referring to. Unless there is a sign, gate, or other blockage on the road, it’s good to go, they leave it up to the ranger’s discretion... which is usually grass above mid calf on the roadways.

FCC proposes new fees for ham radio

So why aren’t they bringing back a fee for the civilian band and the marine bands? As Kent said, I don’t see it happening, too many agencies rely on ARES, and RACE, Salvation Army, and other a mature radio operators... with more fees, comes less interest, with less interest it’s harder to get...

    Fire restrictions

Oregon and washing are in severe fire danger conditions. Use extreme caution while enjoying your outdoor freedoms. Here in Oregon it is required when traveling through government owned lands to carry the fallowing items wether day tripping or camping. Shovel Axe 5# AB fire extinguisher 1...

Yes it’s an OR thing, I have been looking for where this is documented... my bookmark from last year is gone due to COVID, but talking to my ranger friend, it’s still very much a requirement.

US Northwest Pacific Crest Overland Route (PCOR) - Oregon Segment

Hey Paul, great advice for this epic trip you are planning.... one other thing, no open fires... NO Open FIRES unless in a designated camp ground. This includes charcoal BBQ grills... propane stoves are ok, propane fire pits are also ok... it’s fire season, AXE, Shovel, minimum 5# Class AB fire...

    beginning ham radio

Correct, VFO shows the last VFO frequency... I don’t have your radio, so I don’t know how to show the frequency of the memory instead of the name you entered... but there should be a way to list your memory Chanel’s which then would show you the frequency as well as tone offsets for the repeaters.
