I just used Virgina Beach as an approximation. I'm a bit further west and more like halfway between the Dismal Swamp and the coast - the worst of both worlds! lol
Unless they get wet and stay wet, these tents are incredibly resistant to mildew. I did have a slight leak on my original cover. I...
One thing I don't understand is why people go to the trouble of installing and removing a rooftop tent. Maybe I'm spending more time in mine, but from the time I get home from one trip to the time I'm ready for another is minimal - often as little as two weeks. My tent has been on top of my FJ...
I see you didn't bother to actually look at the measurements of the vehicles I named. You didn't disagree with any of my facts, just stated other information we both generally agree on. What did I disagree about? I think a single long rig is typically easier to find a line for, and certainly...
I've had it for 4 years and beaten the shit out of it. It has been awesome. All of this stuff is essentially the same except for the really cheap versions that have the cinch straps on the outside. Smittybilt seems to be the brand that people who paid more for no reason like to bash. I'm sure...
My Smittybilt 8x6 awning is my most-used piece of gear. Sun, rain, leaves, snow - we've sheltered from everything under our awnings. I also have a 4x6 ARB on the back, though I seldom use it. That car show pic of my elderly father and all of his buddies hanging out is my favorite. The...
Given the aftermarket support and reliability, I think the second gen Xterras are probably the best bang for your buck.
That said, you can't go wrong with an FJ Cruiser.
A license is when a right is taken away, then sold back to you. A crime requires an injured party. Normal use of your "illegally" modified CB harms no one. No victim, no crime.
That's entirely possible, it just depends on what else you're carrying. In my case, I had a Hi Lift to mount as well, and it wouldn't make sense to open the awning on the same side the rooftop tent did, as the ladder would have to be removed when the tent was open to allow the awning to be setup.
I had it suspended with a prototype mount a friend is working on. I can't say much more than that now.
The fan is an inexpensive "tent fan" from Amazon that has worked out perfectly. It has a hanger, is adjustable, has separate switches for the lights and fan, and runs for days on a couple D...
One of the poles in my RTT had gotten bent. Smittybilt actually sent me the part free of charge, well beyond the warranty period. It was a surprisingly simple replacement. I just wanted to throw this out there while things were fresh in my mind should anyone have any questions.
I finally wimped out and bought a Buddy heater. I already had the fan hanging over it for warm weather camping, but it helps to disperse the heat well. Honestly, this heater is WAY too big for the standard rooftop tent. At the time of purchase, it was the same price as the smaller model, so...

I was looking up a bit more about as it's near an area I like to visit. I may have run it years ago, but I'm not certain. As for whether or not it may be a challenging trail... Looks like a Subaru did it in the snow, so I'd say no...
