I use an old Air II loaded with Gaia mapping pared to a Garmin GLO GPS. Also a Samsung phone that is connected to the Garmin. I had to take the phone to the phone store and it took them over an hr to figure out how to connect it. Now the phone dosent need service or internet for GPS function...
...of having 12 different apps is familiar. Over the years, I've used a bunch of apps for different purposes - Google Maps (satellite maps), Gaia (topo maps, pins, forest fires), Trails Off Road (trails), Overland Trail Guides (trails) etc.
That said, I've recently been almost exclusively...
...one to the North was no problem, and there is also a nearby bypass if you are in a subaru or something. I posted the navigation file (I use Gaia, for now) that I relied on for the trip. I did the trip in four plus days, but I had to stop once to work, and I also took a detour to Atlantic...
Does this mean that if you restart your device or accidentally log out of Gaia in a non-cell data area, you can't use Gaia until you return to internet service? That would be bad.
Outside finally killed GAIA, they force you to log in when in areas where there is no connectivity and the app will no longer work until you get cell signal again, not to mention almost doubling the cost of the app.
Thank you. I have Gaia on the phone - I guess I need to find out how to use it... : )
On space, it's not much, as you say, however we need to get down to no more than 13 Kg for 12 months, so every little helps...
I have used GAIA gps App in the past for recording GPXs and it worked fine. Even when backpacking I still carry a separate GPS device for recording tracks. Honestly the space saving is that much and you don't have to worry about the phone sucking down as much battery due recording the gpx
...Just a quick 5 or 6 day loop. I've never done any disbursed camping, ever! so I'm just hoping for some clarification on the rules. I have Gaia and OnX for finding public vs private lands. Am I understanding right that I can just drive off into the desert and camp for the night? Being from...
I downloaded his KMZ file and put it into GAIA. Looks like these might be the coordinates of the Midnight Meadow as it's very close to "Midnight Mine".

Yeah, I think that’s the conclusion I’m drawing. For some reason, I was thinking the Gaia subscription was much higher than it actually is. I have no issues just renewing for the current price as it’s not too far from OnX. Plus, I use all those extra layers in Gaia and they keep adding new ones...
...and we generally double check what it tells us, but overall, I can say that it's the most funtional system I have tried.
In comparison:
Gaia offline navigation and general point to point navigation is worse than useless. Downloaded maps cover only small areas. So, utterly useless for...
My Gaia GPS 5 yr membership ends soon. I was intrigued to play on my daughter’s phone with her OnX Off-Road app, with the premium (not elite) subscription. I was looking at the web site and it showed all sorts of layers one can add to the map, like the National Forest Maps. However, we could not...
...iPad). Maps.me doesn't properly import data, none of the other apps I tried is actually flexible enough to import data to the point I wanted.
GaiaGPS and OnX offroad are utterly useless for "normal navigation" and large area offline maps, so that left me with very few options.
My...
click on the track that brings up a overview of the trail, click on that overview and from the next page you can download the GPX.

...point I think we should just accept that CarPlay isn’t happening any time in the foreseeable future. We’ve had one update in 13 months. it’s a shame really, as with the massive issues Gaia has they really could have stolen a ton of users. I’m pretty sure everyone has moved on to OnX at this...
