US Northwest North Idaho/Spokane Adventure Group Donuts & Rigs

...or planning weeklong trips for a group of my Retired Old Fart friends from around the country. Want to find out if anyone is using OnX versus Gaia GPS, and what they think, how they rate the two. Also planning to do a very small group trip across northeastern OR to the coast this Sept...

    Ask About Gaia GPS!

Does anyone know of a way to delete the new "Toyota Trail Guides" on Gaia? They are useless and distracting.

US Northwest North Idaho/Eastern Washington March Trip Frenchman Coulee/Douglas Creek Area

Recent imagery and OnX and snow levels in GAIA look promising. Still might be muddy with the melt off, but easily doable. Still pre running the weekend before, but things are looking good. Weather in vantage is going to be in the high 50's the week before(it's still too early for a long range...

    Which App is best?

...is 100% offline, navigation is fine, is highly customizable. We've used it for our Alaska trip last year and it worked exactly as expected. Gaia wouldn't have worked at all. Ever tried to download maps for the entire Pacific Coast plus BC, Yukon, NWT, Alaska with any of these local trail...

The OFFICIAL Trans NJ Trail Thread

Is there a way to see the entire trail on Overland Bound. I searched for it and got the forums. I even tried to upload it but I am new to this and have not figured it out yet

US Southwest ** Full Event** Gold Butte/North Grand Canyon exploration

I'd appreciate it if you could send me the .GPX files. I have a GAIA account but not onX. I've been to that area before but have not visited any of the sites you listed other than Kelly Point. Expect lots of pin striping going out to Kelley Point unless the brush has been cut back since I was...

Phone applications which record GPX tracks, which can then be exported?

GPX files can't support photos. They're just XML files formatted for GPS systems. In more normal terms, GPX files can only store text. The process for providing photos would have to link to a website where the photo is stored. So in the file would say something like "<image>URL link to...

Phone applications which record GPX tracks, which can then be exported?

gaia allows you to attach a photo (jpg) to a waypoint, which is really nice. most of the filesize is probably from the photos.

    Kisatchie National Forest

...tube channel called Louisiana Overland Adventure Trail. It features the Kisatchie NF and is over 360 miles round trip with nearly 200 miles of FS Roads and trails. I will be submitting the route here but in the meantime you can go to our FB page and there's a link to it using GAIA GPS free...

    Navigators

I’m not sure if Gaia shows private property lines or not but that’s my biggest issue. Garmin Tread shows property lines There’s nothing worse than doing a long trip and driving up to a locked gate. I think it’s complete BS that they can shut it down like this, the road should remain passable...

Phone applications which record GPX tracks, which can then be exported?

There's a file size limit? I had no idea. I've imported entire BDR trails without issues and can't imagine anything being longer than the CA BDR trails.

Phone applications which record GPX tracks, which can then be exported?

gaia. OnX is decent, but falls short when it comes to importing gpx tracks, due to it's filesize limitation.

    Which BDR was your favorite?

...take you with your detours? Do you have a specific resource that you reference for road closures in specific areas that is up to date besides the forest service website? We don't always have cell service to check websites and just refer to what Gaia maps may have at that time. Thank you again!

Garmin ecosystem thoughts.... or stamdalone devices?

It really depends on how one likes to work.... For me, I discovered that I like logging my journeys and where I hike or walk. The 67i is really ideal for that.... Also my phone battery doesn't last long, around 6 hours while the Garmin's: my watch (Tactix 7 Pro) and 67i will last at least a...

Garmin ecosystem thoughts.... or stamdalone devices?

When I started with my off-road maps, I had an old DeLorme inReach, which I still use, so I tried the Garmin maps, Gaia GPS, and marked a lot of trails up with Google Maps. I need to test it a bit more, but the last few trips I've had, I never used the inReach at all. Typically I would use it...

    Navigators

Everyone will have there own opinion on what's going to be best but I just run a Galaxy tablet with Gaia. I forget what model it is but 10", wifi only with expandable storage. Going with a setup like that you can download the maps of the area you will be going to and view them with no service...

What is the best Online and offline offroad GPS mapping App for USA and Canada

Gaia was my goto because it included Canada Backroads. The cost has become prohibitive and will not buy in now. You're okay with the cost, fine but really it doesn't have to cost that much! It's a market demand thing. I've gone back to Google and using local mapping for the area of choice. This...

What is the best Online and offline offroad GPS mapping App for USA and Canada

I just looked at Leadnav and for a $20 lifetime basic version it seems to have most but not all the items one would need. And you are correct, no offline maps. That will cost you $70 a year. But I will wait to see if anyone else is using it and can comment on functionality.

What is the best Online and offline offroad GPS mapping App for USA and Canada

For off-road GPS mapping in the USA and Canada, several apps stand out. onX Offroad offers extensive trail maps and offline capabilities, while Gaia GPS is known for its detailed topographic maps and offline functionality. Other notable mentions include Avenza Maps, which provides access to a...
