Agree with “go with the flow.” I use OnX and have been happy so far. The last 2 trip routes were planned out and were very accurate when you do the research!
Normally I look on gaia for trails, the go over to Google maps and search for stuff to see. From there I'll save what I want on Google maps or Google my maps. I don't really do dedicated routes. Kinda go with the flow hitting various points./

Note there was a few issues with GAIA, so some of the waypoints are duplicated and Day 1 route may show twice... but it's from the Exxon to Goldendale. the camp spot south of Hood River is a backup. and there are a bunch of different backup spots I threw on just because camping on the coast can...
Thanks for the trail. I drove the first third this weekend. Stock gx460. I didn’t run into any issues other than getting turned around once using gaia. I did find a small rock challenge that looked fun. It was on the route.
...up if nobody answers you soon.
Obviously there are electronic means to find and create routes, like OnX and Freecampsites.com. I have used Gaia. In the past.
A good non electronic method is the DeLorme Atlas and Gazetteer series of map books. There is one for each state.

...over the years is being able to tune and more than anything is how much data output the download server has compared to all the others. I constantly visit new areas and that's a big deal for me. I can see the usefulness' of what they did, I just prefer satellite view and the standard Gaia layers.
Got a reply from Gaia. The Toyota advertising is embedded in the Overland layer. No way to turn it off. Sad to see Gaia going downhill like this. The reply is below:

At this time, there isn't a way to turn these map labels off...
Same. Gaia for all the trips, but OnX as a supplement for things like recent imagery (helps with early season and checking the snow regression), and seeing where things cross into private land (as frequently GAIA has led me into areas that though they public access, private land owners will...
Hi Dale! It would be great to see you again.
I have been using Gaia for years and still like it. I so have onX as well. I use onX more for finding curated trials and Gaia for just straight up mapping.
