I'm of a similar mind. Always had dogs as a kid. There was a long stretch after my parents divorce I had to move to the city and did not have a dog. Finally got a dog again and eventually moved away from the city. If I cant take my dog, i dont want to go. And I've been to many national...
...is nearby.
Berkshires of western Mass can be nice, and actually tie in to @Dave in AZ Adirondack suggestion, as well as Green Mountains.
Check Gaia GPS app and the DeLorme Gazetteer paper book maps the are state specific. Pick up the AMC trail maps for the area as well. Pour over them at...
...In addition, I'd recommend picking up a paper copy of the MVUM maps at a local forest service office or online.
I'm going to continue to explore and update this route if I find better sections of trail.

That's awesome and some great info. I'll definitely be looking at my route and seeing what I can incorporate. shouldn't be super tight on time, but as I'm sure you know, time tables can quickly get out of whack with a group. let alone any recoveries or breakdowns.
THANK YOU!
...into Bethel ridge at 46.75346, -120.99198. It's called Grouse haven road and links back up with Malloy Canyon road at 46.79750, -120.93448. Gaia doesn't show it to be a through road, OnX does and it is. It's roughly 2 miles shorter and the road is a lot better if you want to make up some...
...and everyone seems to have a slightly different route due to what they want to see or where they are starting from. I took the route shared on Gaia and customized it in OnX with what I wanted to see. In fact, the Gaia route now takes you through what is now a gated mountain neighborhood north...
...I'm liking OnX, this trip proved it's not ready to be a stand alone solution. several flaws showed through that I think just mean I will keep Gaia as well. I'm not sure if I had to choose one which one I'd choose... I kinda feel like OnX, at least recently is making more improvements, but...
Curious who all is running OnX and who's running Gaia? I run both, I'd previously been Gaia bias, but after the last couple updates, I'm more OnX as my main with Gaia as a backup for information.
I got the Garmin nylon sports band and it's a lot more comfortable to sleep with.
Two things to know: if you shower with your watch, this band gets soaked and takes a while to dry up. It will also stretch with time.
That said, I am very happy with it.
Couple of questions.
Are you trying to utilize GAIA GPS app on your phone or on the vehicle? If it is on the vehicle screen is it a stand alone app or mirrored from your phone via carplay or android auto?
GPS locators like the GPS pucks mentioned earlier are usually not subscription based...
I use a Garnin GLO ll that connects to my Phone and Ipad loaded with GAIA by Bluetooth. I had to take the phone to T-Mobile to turn off th cell based locating and link it to the Garmin, it took them a while but they finally figured it out. So if know if I am going to be out of cell svc I will...
Backpacker/Mountaineer first, Overlander second.
After about 10 years I finally left the Gaia platform. The last price increase did it for me. Gaia has been going downhill in tems of stability and growth since Outside bought it and the original developers left. I looked at OnX but it's siloed...
GPS noob here...
I have a '23 4Runner, which itself has GPS connectivity, I think, but how do you get constant GPS connectivity to your mapping app like Gaia or OB1? Mine seems to only currently have it when I have cell service.
Thanks!
We have looked into this, and have a way to do it. It will be weeks not months. The idea is, on the details page, you would set a custom color. By doing so, you would override the color by difficulty setting.
@Michael Just a plug for the use-case for allowing custom colors on routes...this is the Ozark Overland Adventure Trail .gpx files loaded in Gaia. Its broken up by day, so each color is the recommended day's travel. I would be nice to be able to assign colors...I get that the colors are...
