Waiting for ham radio then I will also be head to New Mexico. Going North at first then work my way down so I can meet up with an OB group at the end of the month.
I am not sure where I am going. Hopefully I can find a place near Cloudcroft, with a view, to camp. I am not exactly sure how BLM camping works but I guess I am about to find out.
Download the MUVM for Smokey Bear district or stop by the District office in Ruidoso for a paper copy (if you stop at Ranger station either USFS or BLM they will also guide you to campsites). It will show U.S. Forest Service dispersed camping. Just find a spot along the designated roads with fire pits in place (do not build new sites) there will be plenty. Boondocking on BLM the same process.
This was great help. Ranger station in Cloudcroft was closed, so I asked a lady at the local outdoor shop for suggestions and she pointed out a road I could find some good campsites. My site was fantastic. Thanks for your help!!
