“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
Home again!
Miles driven: 11,468
U.S. National Parks: 5
Canadian National Parks: 3
Highlights: Secret alpine lakes, wildlife (bison, moose, bears, eagles & more), crazy rock scrambles, one sprained ankle and a nearly fatal windstorm. Sometimes the unexpected challenges are the adventure.
“I prefer the saddle to the streetcar and star-sprinkled sky to a roof, the obscure and difficult trail, leading into the unknown, to any paved highway, and the deep peace of the wild to the discontent bred by cities. . . it is enough that i am surrounded by beauty.”
(Everett Ruess)
Banff and Mt. Rainier have been added to the summer itinerary. It was a bit freaky being #10668 in the Parks Canada reservation system queue, but I scored a decent campsite. Whew!
