Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

It's funny I have a place close to me I dump for $5, but had not thought about that on the road. I just figured a night or two for dumping waste, filling water and doing laundry (we do have a W/D AIO unit) would be a good respit while we grocery shop and whatnot. However, for those times it is...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

You read correctly, we had an F350 with hard camper shell, the biggest issue with that was we really like to take the TLC off road and to very remote locations and the F350 would not have been the best option for that. But yes, a VERY solid option for tons of people. We leave towards the end...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

Awesome, thanks for this reply! I will definitely look into this. Their longest hose is 30' which is not bad, but not always feasible. I also wanted to see what strength their light was at to make sure it was really inactivating the viruses. I'm not sure I can make one cheaper, but possibly...

    Vehicle choice advice

We have your needs almost exactly and use an 1995 80 Series Landcruiser. Really surprised no one else has mentioned one of these. We do NOT RTT, but you do you. My son does and uses a RTT that he throws in my face when we first get to camp. We use the Gazelle T Hex Hub and love the space.

    Trail Recommendations in North Texas

I'm a little late to the party here, but DOMO offroad park near Gatesville and Hidden Falls in Marble Falls will test your 4x4 plenty. Check 'em out.

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

Alright, picking the trail up again with some UPDATES!! We bought a class A motorhome about a year ago, and I think it is the right move for us. I have flat towed the land cruiser many many times at this point and we did a one month trip last summer. We really like the set up for base camping...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

Very interesting. Yes, I want to move base camp relatively infrequently, but that is a vague answer. My hope would be moving every 10-14 days depending on where we are. Of course BLM land is cost effective, but off grid and not always super easy with a large motorhome. We have looked into...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

I realize the fuel consumption issue is not insignificant, but what I really need to do is put pencil to paper and start to add things up on a monthly basis. We plan to homeschool the kids and we both plan on remote working so I am simply assuming a bigger base camp is what we need. This will...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

I think this is part of the problem, but I appreciate you shedding light on it. We have a relatively vague idea of what we want to do and how we want to do it, but you are right in that every situation may call for a slightly different set up. Even more than this is the idea of my favorite...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

There is no question our setups will evolve over time. That said a lot of what we are looking at is part of an evolution as well. I appreciate the perspective and I agree with what you are saying. One thing I was kind of forgetting about is that with the F350 the kids are just stuck in their...

Long Term Overland Set Up Questions

I cannot remember if I have posted here before though I lurk often. Our family has been overlanding a few times over the last couple of years, but we are planning to take the larger plunge into long term (months) overlanding in the next couple of years. We have had lots of discussions of what...
