    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

After the last trip to Ontario I decided it was time to upgrade the interior a bit, and finally sprung for a rear table for the back door from golden rovers as well as one of their dash vent mounts for our devices. I also sprung for new interior lighting from feniex utilizing their 1” white...

4Runner kitchen slide out set up

I have a similar setup, but all my builds haven't had the liftgate the 4Runners do. On the FJ I could cook on the rear bumper. In the disco the rear door has a table which folds down for cooking, so it is next to my fridge, and under my 270 awning.

Did Top Gear/Grand Tour Inspire a Generation of Overlanders?

Following the Camel Trophy in peterson's 4wd magazines then seeing one of the retired trophy trucks on display at the local dealer definitely sparked something. Actually working on a few defenders and discoveries while I was primarily wrenching on BMWs at an independent import shop sealed the...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

Mounted a fan to better circulate A/C whilst in motion, and relocated my control center to mount over where the now abandoned sunroof control was. Giving better control of my aux lighting, radios, and the new fan.

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Mounted 3/4" led marker lights to replace the old cheap interior lights which failed after 4 years of use. The new lights mount into 1" aluminum stock that I drilled 3/4" holes in for the lights and mounted to the roof supports with m4 cap screws. Looks relatively clean, works decent, and the...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

https://lionsafari.com/ https://maps.app.goo.gl/VVzhKoT2N6waQ2MV8?g_st=ipc Definitely winding down for the season as winter is approaching, but our kids loved the shows about the birds the park helps breed in captivity to restore wild populations and being able to see the animals in different...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

6 years on and she's still providing us with wonderful trips. While exploring on our most recent trip up north for thanksgiving we were able to tour through a conservation park known as "African Lion Safari" in Ontario. Neat place, and the kids had a blast looking out at the wildlife out the...

    Fire proof travel safe

Get a good lockbox. Disregard trying to carry safe in a vehicle that is fire resistant. Vehicle fires often burn much too hot for them to do much good, especially if you are traveling and the response to a rural vehicle fire is not the fastest. The one in the picture only burned for about 10...

    Foxwing/Batwing Awnings - Your Thoughts?

Oh I’m familiar with UV breaking down ropes, but under a year worth of intermittent use shouldn’t generally deteriorate the jacket to this extent. Heck if falls don’t retire our BW 2 11mm rescue ropes early we generally hit the ten year mark and retire them due to age. I use BW 3mm niteline on...

    Foxwing/Batwing Awnings - Your Thoughts?

Put my batwing up last weekend so the kids could roast some marshmallows over our propane fire pit camping in the side yard. This is not a complaint, more of an update on longevity. I installed my batwing in 2016 and it’s at well over 200 nights camped/deployed at this point some of which were...

    Refurbishing a cheap Disco 1

She made the nearly 1600 mile round trip journey to the 45th parallel without issue. The toddlers have officially dubbed it the “bluey truck” and throughly enjoyed the commanding view that they had over mom and dad from the rear seat between the LR elevation and their child seats.
