Looking for reliable two way radio

And this is how it all begins! Consider something like a TYT 9800. I have a 7800 in my truck with a mag mount antenna that I pop on the roof, running the coax out the window, and have good reception into and out of repeaters 20 miles away. Terrain matters of course. Up high you can hear and be...

Ham Radio....This thing on? Radio check? QST?

I’m curious - have you tried calling on the national calling frequency 146.520 FM at the top of the hour? It’s possible you might catch someone who monitors that frequency. I think that would be about your best chance to make a random contact on vhf FM. I made a few simplex contacts testing...

Trans American Trail Fishing Licences Permits / Camp Sites

General suggestion: search the website of each state’s fish and game department for online purchase of short term licenses. Or, you may find all the info you need here: https://www.reserveamerica.com/outdoors/hunt-fish-license.htm Most states sell licenses online. If you don’t want to do that...

Solo on the old Route 66

Red Rock Canyon State Park west of OKC is a nice spot, as is Palo Duro State Park just east of Amarillo and Santa Rosa State Park at Santa Rosa. All provide connections to the historic road.

What do you do for water?

In the middle is a plastic milk crate holding a 5 gal bladder (like a Coughligans or some such). It rides with the nozzle up, and when in use, I just flip it over. No chafing due to it riding in the milk crate. Sent from my iPad using OB Talk

What do you do for water?

Water jugs for cooking, drinking, etc, and also keep a Coleman solar heated camp shower filled that I use for washing hands, etc while doing kitchen work. Sent from my iPad using OB Talk

    Coffee Set Ups

I have an aeropress and a cheap plastic Walmart pour-over brewing cone rig. They both do the job. If you like fiddling with trendy gadgets or small cup expresso, the aeropress has appeal (and a bit less trash - tiny piece of filter paper for the filter). But to my mind, the easiest and...
