I would also add the "barrier" that you have to study ridiculous questions most people have no interest in and have no relevance to what you actually want to use the radio for.

Thanks. Yeah learning fast but this is very helpful. Crossband seems great because as I understand it, I could be out hiking in range of the truck while waiting for friends, which would then have more power to transmit my 3-5 w Hand held signal to a 50W mobile that repeats it way farther.

Interesting news: I have the same radio and bought the 6 dB gain and the "ghost" 3 dB shorty right from Midland. But a guy that knows a lot more about radio tech than me said the specs on the little shorty "are blatant lies" based on antenna frequency and size. Not sure how they could do...

I would absolutely recommend Schnebly Hill Road, take it from Hwy 17 down into Sedona. Then hit up the broken arrow trail once you get into Sedona. You will it.
