I started exploring back in the 90's with a girlfriend who was a Geologist. We had
a couple Isuzu Trooper IIs, an early ‘80s 2 door 4 cylinder (red) & a late 80s 4 door V6. They were square tin boxes but they cost less than half of everything else & they could get the job done. We took them around CO, UT, NM, TX, MO & the Dakotas.

I never had any money until my 30's when I bought my 2002 Nissan Pathfinder LE (R50) - really my one and only new car. In the 2000s I drove it all over AZ, UT & CO, doing just about every CO Pass (except Black Bear) with it mostly stock.

I inherited my spirit of exploration from my Mom and I introduced her to off-road exploration in the late '90s. When I had kids in 2009, I kind of quit everything except an annual SW UT trip with my Mom. Once my youngest was 6yo, I dove back in and learned of the birth of "Overlanding". In the NOORA community, Stioc & TownDawgR50 inspired me to keep my Path and make my mid life crisis become doing the mods I had always wanted to do but couldn't afford. My Pathfinder is a great size for NW trails, she’s fairly unique on the trails, and I've had her for 18 years and 106K miles, so it's a bit of a nostalgia thing as well.

When my Mom's 2nd Jeep Grand Cherokee died (valve seat failure), I wanted her to have something reliable - she's in her mid-late 70s and does several big trips throughout the Western US - particularly in the UT outback, sleeping in her rig with her dog. We explored a late 2000s GX470 but the seats didn't work with her sleeping arrangement (love that truck though). Eventually, I convinced her to let me split a 2018 Toyota 4Runner Off-Road with her. I work on it when she visits a couple times a year and we try to do an annual SW trip every fall. When she's eventually done with it, it will likely be my last truck ever (I'm planning a 25-30 year run for it). When it's in Seattle, between working on it, you'll often find me on the trails in it. It looks just like very other white Off-Road 4Runner - except that there's full CBI bumper in white waiting in ID Falls for it (my Mom's bucket list since ExpoWest 2018).

I live between Kirkland, Redmond & Woodinville. These past 3 years, I've kind of specialized in 30 hour getaways to the Cascades with my kids, or a day trip escape with friends. RainG0at on Instagram is my truck’s page.
