There are still a lot of FJ40s around I still have my 1978 that I bought in Cheyenne the summer of 78. I am rebuilding it now and have repowered it with a Cummins R2.8, H55F 5 speed and split transfer case. Full floating FJ60 rear axle and big brake kit on the front with the same width track...
I am from Wyoming and had to work to many night shifts and work out doors and -45 and camping in the winter does not really sound like a good time in Wyoming.
I have a Ram 3500 with the Cummins 6.7 that is too long and to heavy at 9.3K I don't take it off road. But have had it in snow deep enough that my bed left an imprint in the snow and though I was going to have to pull some cable out and use the Ford that was bringing my John Deere back so I...

I am building a FJ40 with an R2.8. Installed a full floater rear axle, big brake kit on the front axle that widened to the track to match the rear FJ60 axle. Installed a Toyota H55F 5 speed with a split transfer case modified with a 3:1 LR.

I am building a 1978 40.
I converted a FJ60 rear axle to a full floater with front disc brake hubs and parts
H55F transmission and split transfer case with 3:1 low range and kept the 4:11 gears in the axles.
Big brake kit widened my front axle to match the rear.
Cummins R2.8 to provide the...
