Though it seems like a past life, I was one of the 6 people that started the North American XJ Association (NAXJA) and was the original NAXJA trail coordinator. NAXJA has grown to become the largest Jeep XJ association in the world. I, on the other hand, left off-roading years ago as my family and work-life took a higher priority. I retired my old XJ due to body fatigue and hope to transfer the parts to a Comanche pick up someday.
As for now, I'm starting back into the outdoor/Overlanding community with a 2017 stock GMC Canyon. Plans for the winter are to plate/armor the platform and look to an OME suspension. I want to lock the rear and add a winch up front shortly afterward. I have a Bantam BT3C trailer that followed the Jeep over a lot of Colorado and Utah so I haven't decided on where my Overlanding accommodations will end up if I leave ground tents for elevated sleeping, but I do plan some sort of rack/shell on the truck eventually.
I don't look to the Canyon to ever be up to the challenges of the old Jeep (did all but vehicle damage mandatory trails) but I plan it to be a better daily driver and an all-around get back to nature vehicle.
I live in Missouri, work in Kansas, and have recently spent most of my free weekends camping in Arkansas and Colorado. I guess that makes me a part of multiple US regions (lucky for me)
Work still takes a large bite out of my life, but I intend to make the most of my free time getting back to what I love and to decompress. As is said here, "Adventure is Necessary". I guess I just forgot that for a while.
