    Information on a Winch

The wife and I are both 57 years old and getting to the rough and crazy isn't on our list, so I tend to think a winch and new bumper is off the expenditure list for now. As you say, if I were in my 30's, I would probably have a different perspective.

    Information on a Winch

That is certainly how my Ram truck is treated. It has just over 160,000 miles on it and I bet less than 5,000 miles are with 4x4 engaged. I do not put it in 4x4, unless I absolutely must have it. At 100,000 miles I drained and changed the differential oil. The rear was BLACK... the front...

Vote the poll. But also share your opinions and thoughts regarding the necessity of a Winch, or why you think you don't need one. Currently, my FJ Cruiser doesn't have one. One the other hand, my Jeep Wrangler has one, but I have never needed to use it. The build on the FJ will be completed...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Spent about three hours on the rig today. First was to start wiring in the new 200Ah house battery. (Gonna have plenty of juice!) Next was installing the tailgate shelves. Then I removed the bottom seat cushions on the second row seats, so that the folded backs would lay flatter...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

This dude... It came highly recommended by multiple Overlanders in my locale. It is a 40 Amp. What's awesome about it is the multiple imputs it can take and the microprosser will manage all of it without any adjustments or switches, etc. So my main interest was the wiring up to the auto...

What Did You Do With Your Rig Today?

Started with a new battery. The old one wasn't holding a charge and was 9 years old. I really like the Duracell's from Sam's Club. Then I mounted the little 5lb Propane Bottle to the back gate, which is right next to the fold-down shelf, where I will cook. Then I started on the "house power'...

Best Overland Rig for a Beginner?

I'm brand new here, but I opted for an FJ Cruiser. There are still FJ's out there that have 100k or less miles and are very affordable and come with some nice capability. Yep, I bought an FJ for $16k and flippin love it! I am not freaked about 'pin stripping' an $80k rig.

Which comms to stay in touch w/ home

I started off with SPOT and then went to Garmin inReach. Both are excellent. About 4 years ago I got a GMRS license and I have been exploring with the linking repeaters, which are usually free to join. A friend and I are currently working on repeater Coms where we can connect across the...

    House Power

In full disclosure, I don't have the exact battery above. Agree. I have very, very little load on all the things I would ever use. #1 is my Frig/Freezer...... On 12v it is stupid low at around 50 watts with a max startup peak around 100 watts. #2 is the Starlink Mini and it is about 60...

    House Power

Because of a smoking Black Friday sale before Christmas, I purchased a 12V, 200 AH LiFePO4 battery and a 2000 watt inverter. I have plenty of room for it in the back of the FJ Cruiser, but here is my question..... I watched a couple of YouTubes on guys charging their LiFePO4 batteries from the...

MesaJohn from Western Colorado. Only lived out here for the past 3 years and about to do some "sporin". Old to exploring but new to doing it in a cage. Love our newly found FJ, super low miles for an '07 and getting it outfitted.

    Howdy from Western Colorado

MesaJohn here from western Colorado. I have joined Overland Bound, as I have some things to learn, as I am new to the endeavor. Starting this coming spring (2025), we are going to start doing a lot of 2 night, weekend trips to practice and hone our Overland craft, before we dive in to 1-3 week...
