We got close! But the night before the crossing our daughter got altitude sickness. We had to descend down to Purgatory area where we camped for a few days. It wasn't meant to be, but daughter was ok and that's all that mattered. Maybe next year.
Go up FS 585 to South Mineral CG, then keep going..

Texas is great. Hope the move works out.
Texas hill country route is fun as noted above. Also check out Padre Seashore (PINS)you can camp on the beach in Texas - like 70 miles of it.
We also typically bolt to CO or NM to get altitude in the summer. One day travel from Austin to Carson NF.

I just saw an Instagram post of a earthroamer on Ophir so now I feel like a dork for asking.
Camper setup. I was thinking of starting in Silverton and yes hit those camp sites. I wanted to get out through lake city so we can hit owl pass to Ouray
What do y’all think? Too tricky to go from Silverton, CO to Creede, CO over Stony pass with 4x4 Sprinter w/Toyo MT’s and upgraded suspension (Van Compass). Anyone with experience?
Is there a better pass/option like Engineer or Cinnamon?
thx!
Posted this on another thread as well.. Got it setup in the new truck (2020 Ford F-250 with Sync3) and it seems to work awesome! No need to mount iPad - and you can have the passenger route plan while the driver follows the route on CarPlay. I’m going to keep playing with it and seeing if there...
