Go with ham radio, you can study for a week and pass the test. The test are 15 dollars. Nothing wrong with the GMRS radio,. Look for a local ham radio club in your area. Look for info on this web site http://www.arrl.org/home

Sound good , yes 287 to 40 Last year I left Sherman on Tuesday morning 2am and drove straight threw and stayed first night at Koa camp in flagstaff. Don’t know what your plans are for departure date .
