  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Greetings All!

I'm Jake from Brooklyn, NY. Not a lot of dirt roads around here, but I got into overlanding in 2014 riding shotgun in my friends FJ62 out in the California desert. I work in the movie business in New York which is stressful and consuming to say the least. So I started to fly to LA between jobs to see a close friend and go camping for a week using his near stock FJ62. Slowly we build up more confidence with each trip while building up the FJ over the years. His rig has nice lift and KO2 tires to match, and tows an off-road trailer made from an old pickup bed among many other upgrades. We've been making annual trips to Death Valley, of which about 80% we've covered so far with only a single vehicle!... Lippencott Pass, Mengel Pass, etc.....gotta love Toyota.

That being said, I have a Subaru Forester. Kicking myself at first when I first got it because I didn't get 4Runner, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to overland her anyway. Inspired by "Fozroamer", I bought the 2 inch lift kit from Anderson Design, along with a few other choice pieces. Armor underneath I thought would be important, so I got all the plates I could find. Primitive Racing Skid-Plate, Trans cover, and rear diff cover. I bought 5 new steel rims and set of General Grabber AT2 tires. I decided that the old spare tire location was better for storage so bought a roof cargo rack and built a mount for the spare tire. Ordered a rally light bar for my front bumper and it has mounts for 2 sets of lights. I plan on a 20" LED bar on top & two 4" LED cubes on the bottom.

My plans going forward are to add a second battery in the spare tire well with a CTEK dc to dc charger. This will run all my lights accessories and charging needs. The CTEK is solar ready as well, so I will eventually get solar panels. I plan on mounting two 3.5 gal fuelpax on the cargo rack & two 2 gal water pax. Eventually I will changer the bumpers to steel ones and move the spare tire to the rear freeing up the roof to more storage. I could go on but you get the idea.

Cheers!
