Might have bitten off more than I could chew (figuratively speaking)

Figured that I would revisit this after I solved for everything. After using the large Discada a few times, I decided that it was about the right size for me. Looked around on Amazon and found the Eastman Outdoors Big Kahuna burner which fits the large Discada perfectly and has removeable and...

    keeping propane bottles warm

I had a bit of an issue over the weekend using some 1lb bottles and large Discada cooker. Temperature was a bit chilly (around 34 or so) and my propane tank and regulator were freezing up and causing some sporadic issues with maintaining the flame. What do some of you folks do to help...

Woodford Reserve is ALWAYS a good choice!

    12v Basics

LifePo4 is awesome technology and I have a solar generator (Bluetti EB70) that uses that technology. I see that you are in Idaho, so one thing that you will need to consider (and one reason that I have decided to use a 2nd battery setup in addition to the LifePo) is that they don't react well...

    12v Basics

I decided since I was doing some wiring anyway, why not just upgrade to a dual battery system? So that's what I am going to do. Since my FJ has the so called "smart" alternators, I will be using the Renogy DC to DC 40 amp controller along with an AGM battery and the Renogy Voyager 10 amp...

    12v Basics

Yes, good point for sure! Thanks for the advice. So fuse or breaker close to the battery, 2 gauge wire to the rear, then ground the fuse block to the frame at the rear and power it with the 2 gauge. Sound about right?

Thanks Old man. Would it be good to just terminate the negative to the frame at the rear as well?

    12v Basics

I will be picking some brains here over the coming weeks. I am getting ready to install some rack and rock lights and even though I think I have a good idea about what is going on, it doesn't mean that I do. My first couple of questions are... I am planning on running a positive wire...

When drilling, TAKE IT SLOW! You are drilling into a very hard surface so do not do this when you don't have the time to take it slowly. Literally the first time I did one I probably took 15 minutes just to drill the hole. I used a jig, used a ton of cutting fluid and probably only went...

    Sye

After having done both myself, I do like the simplicity of the hack n tap. I once thought that the SYE would be stronger, but after having both in different rigs, I never had any issues with either of them. The SYE is pretty straightforward, but can be a bit daunting. Course it is also a...

What to take when off the road?

Is it just me or does ALL of that stuff look brand spanking new? I like to keep all of my stuff clean but let's face it, after a few uses, especially where this stuff typically get's used, it is going to show. As I was watching I guess one of my questions is why isn't some of this stuff...

Questions and musings about a solar generator and a refrigerator

Just a follow-up to this in case anyone else runs into a similar situation. The FJ Cruiser built-in inverter charged the Bluetti EB70 without issue as long as the solar generator was not depleted much. During my testing, I depleted the solar generator about 50% then plugged it up and started...

    Question regarding a simple switch

Gotcha! The lights in question are a very low wattage, but in November I will be wiring up some additional lights to the rack as well as some rock lights and I will certainly use relays for all of those and rewire the light in question while I am at it. Appreciate all that contributed to...
