Do you take time to leave it better than you found it?

Every time I go out I take huge trash bags, maybe 20-30 of them. My friends and I always try to leave it as pristine as possible. When there are other people camping around us we usually approach them to hand them out trash bags so they pick it up and take it with them. The sad truth is...

Thanks Poopie! I see you're in Rolling meadows near the best city in the world!! I went to school in UIC. Chicago is by far on my fav travel spots. I like to go back and visit my friends every couple of years or so. Thanks again!

What is your must cook meal or must have food for camping.

I do not see myself going out there and not making a BBQ... for me that is a must!!!

Lift or armor? Which is a must at first?

(Not having read the whole thread) IMHO. I would do lift first! Ground clearance is more important than armoring. There is plenty under the car that can leave you stranded in a heart beat. Doors, panels, dents, can be pricey to fix, but still the vehicle would be drivable. Hitting something...

    Fridge size recommendations

It really depends on a few factor, how many people travel with you? How "gourmet" are your overland meals? I know friends that only cook once a day and their 60 liter fridge can go a long way. We're a family of 4 and we have a Dometic 80 Liter fridge and its Plenty for us for a week or more...

    Communications and Remote Locations

We are always glad to hear about people enjoying their time and adventures here. Im glad you liked it. It certainly is not the time to visit this country and to say it out loud hurts! However having said that, I know a lot of great people are willing to lend a helping hand to anyone coming...

    Communications and Remote Locations

Here in Venezuela with the InReach Explorer there wouldn't be any issues with it. You'd have to run into a highly educated, high ranking officer for them to know that is actually SATCOM. Otherwise they'll just think its a regular handheld GPS. They might fall in love with it but otherwise...

    This got me thinking....

10 years ago I started seeing the importance of Communications! If I were in your shoes today, I would look to get a HAM license. Im sure you know that In the US there are several categories that allow you to grow your knowledge and skills to get the most out of comms and usage of bands...

Overlanding with Animals (Pets or Other..?)

Our dog Orion travels with us from time to time. Sadly we can't take him with us everywhere, but we do our best to bring him along with his safety measures and some of his comforts. He loves it!

    Nature Photos

Poopie, that was actually my first time visiting the place, and I must say it was simply awe inspiring. As much as cameras are great today, they don't quite transmit the awe factor. I hope to be going back soon. One of the things I love about this country is that is has a huge diversity...
