The main restriction with the weight you can put on your Patriot roof rack is your cross bars. Most factory cross bars are designed to handle kayaks, bikes, and other light outdoor equipment. I've done a large portion of the Dirt Devil Trails, I wouldn't say they are overly challenging, but not really just a scenic route either. You need good ground clearance in places but I doubt one would need four wheel drive.

The Dirt Devil Trails consist of public roads, albeit gravel, service, and primitive roads. Unless TDOT closes the roads they are open. As long as you stay on the trail and don't venture onto private land you wont have any problems.

Windrock is a good place but it's private property, you'll have to get a land use permit from the office before you can venture onto the property.
