The Big Decision, RTT or Ground Tent

I have both a RTT, 5 ground tents, 2 hammocks, and several tarps. Enjoy camping in all of them with each having a different style of camping. Variety being the spice of life and all. Motorcycle folks can relate to this. Also, very good video with lots of pointers in the selection process...

Overlanding Shoes (Is there such a thing :-) )

Update on the Danners. They were very comfortable durable but…on rocky trails they were just too thin and bruised my feet badly. So I found a trail runner with a taller stack. Problem solved. After 6 months of hiking they give me great comfort, protection from rocks, traction and ventilation...

    First Overlanding trip circa 1976

Five weeks in Utah. This slide was shot in Canyonlands. My much missed '74 Toyota HiLux. (2WD but we went everywhere. Ah, the young and the stupid.)

    Dual use outerwear for Overlanding/Backpacking

Love my Atom. Like you I scored an Osprey Talon 22 on Ebay for $50, just a couple of months ago. Always on the hunt for good gear at a great price, but sometimes have to pay full boat for the right piece of gear. Example: just made the latest shipment of Durston X-Mid 1 backpacking tent and...

    Dual use outerwear for Overlanding/Backpacking

Good scoop. Will look at the Eddie Bauer pants. Got the LLBean vest on Ebay for $21. Never worn and still in the sealed plastic bag from the manufacturer. No luck on the EE since everyone loves em so much they're not for sale. Also got an Arcteryx Atom AR jacket back in January and wow what...

    Dual use outerwear for Overlanding/Backpacking

A lot of my outdoor gear was getting a little long in the tooth so time for an upgrade. For example, my Moonstone Goretex jacket bought in 2000 weighs 2lbs and my North Face fleece zip inner jacket weighs 1 1/2 lbs, and my LLBean 600 fill vest 10 oz. This stuff is ok for overland travel in cold...

    Propane Fire Pit

I too have an Outland and find it too big to transport, so its assigned back yard duty. Recently bought a Little Red Campfire and it's the size of a cake pan and packs nicely.

    GSI Coffee Rocket

    Camp propane stoves

Use a 1 burner Partner Steel and also picked up a 2 burner slimline Kovea (on sale at REI) . The Kovea is highly rated and extremely compact for a 2 burner. The Kovea gives great control, from simmer to high heat, and the best wind protection of any propane stove I've had. Right now on sale...

Scam Alert...Big Agnes Store dot com

Rsweet the website was in the title. bigagnes.com. I doubled up on protecting my order by using my credit card through PayPal. Big Agnes, the company, has been legally trying to take this site down for months…but it’s still active. Sigh.

Scam Alert...Big Agnes Store dot com

PayPal has denied that this is a valid claim. Done with them.

Scam Alert...Big Agnes Store dot com

Fraud...as they do NOT have any Big Agnes outdoor gear. PayPal doesn't recognize them as a fraud and releases funds despite no shipment notification. Not the way PayPal says that they operate. So all that B S about they have your back on transactions...total horse excrement.
