I'm a Yankee (NW Pennsylvania) transplanted to the Big Easy (New Orleans) where I met my wife of 30+ years while in the Avondale Shipyard (recently Northrop Gruman at Avondale) for 14 months. Former Navy from 1985 - 1997. Boatswain's Mate, SWCC (NEC9533), Military Police (NEC9545)
Since then I've been a staff architect for a New Orleans Architectural firm and I've run my own drafting and design firm. The housing crisis of 2008 led me to take a position as a drafting instructor at a local technical college while still trying to keep my little firm afloat. It turns out that teaching is something that I enjoy very much. The introspection that resulting from my Dad passing away Christmas day 2013 made me realize that I didn't need more money, I needed more time with my kids. A position as drafting teacher at a nearby high school pretty much fell in my lap and my military service put me near the top of the pay scale making it a viable career choice. I seem to have a connection with teens, particularly troubled teens which makes my job that much more fulfilling.
This career affords me time each summer to seek new adventure with my family. This quest for adventure is what has led me to overlanding.
