Anyone have a 4Runner, Sunroof and full length Front Runner Rack?

I’m having the hardest time deciding between the 3/4 and full length fro rack for my 4Runner. I’d love the extra storage space of the full length rack but have been enjoying the sunroof more than I expected and am worried about covering it. Does anyone have this setup? Do you notice the...

    2WD to Montana and Utah

Oh yeah, looks broken for me too. Let me try again. And the forum service seems to keep breaking on a link directly to the video. Here’s a link to the channel and there’s a video in there called “Can you go off road in a 2wd truck?” https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChRLh-FYuNdc2kjutOcTCrA

Tacomas, 4 Runners and Car Seats

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! After hearing everyone’s stories and knowing a little more about what to look for I test drove the new tacos and 4runners. The 4Runner is clearly going to be much easier with kids. Looks like I won’t be driving a truck for the first time in 15 years.

    2WD to Montana and Utah

I’ve got the same truck and run a decent amount of trails in Southern California. If I were doing a solo trip to Utah/Montana I would stick to fire/forestry roads. At least for this area, generally if it shows up on Google maps it’s not going to be an issue. I’d also suggest picking up a...

Help me chose my first Overlander

I wouldn’t pay much over the blue book value for all of the mods. It’s very likely you’ll end up like a lot of us and stick mostly to fire roads and easy-moderate trails in which case you won’t need any of that outside of the tires. If it were me I would focus on getting the newest/lowest miles...

    Cheaper substitute for Maxtraxx?

I’ve got the tred 800s and I’ve been super happy with them. They seem like best compromise between quality/cost. Here’s the last time I needed them.

Help me chose my first Overlander

A Toyota is the only thing I’d feel comfortable buying with high mileage especially if you are planning to make any solo trips. I’ve had 4 Toyota pickups in a row and put 100k-250k miles on all of them. I’ve been in for service twice and both were times for innocuous dashboard lights. The idea...

Tacomas, 4 Runners and Car Seats

I'm expecting my first kid in about 6 months and also planning to get a new rig. I'm a longtime Toyota truck person but I've heard dealing with car seats in trucks is a nightmare so I'm looking at Tacomas and 4runners now. Safety between the 2 seems to be comparable so I'm weighing the loss of...

    Rafts for fishing?

Another vote for kayak fishing. It’s the best and fairly easy to deal with. I would look at craigslist for a sit-on-top that’s at least 10 feet. You can find them for really cheap and it’s a good way to see if you like it. If you’re not enjoying it you can throw it right back on Craigslist.

RTT that opens over the tailgate?

I would definitely recommend looking at the HD tents if you're looking at yakima. I had the regular tent and the nylon was super thin. I ended up ripping it super easily. The new HD ones have way thicker tents. I did love the clamp system though. I could pop it off and get it in the garage in...

RTT that opens over the tailgate?

Did you have problems with one too? I had the first gen and it fell apart after 2 trips. Yakima support literally told me "Those were our first tents and they aren't good. You should return it to REI if you can." and that is exactly what I did.

RTT that opens over the tailgate?

Just make sure to check the site before you purchase one. I just recently got the Tepui Ayer 2 and was very surprised to find out that the it doesn't support folding off the rear. My guess is has to do with the size since it's their smallest one. It did make my tent orientation decision a lot...

2019 Tacoma TRD Off-Road DCLB payload limit

They definitely make some lightweight ones. I’ve been eyeing this one up and it only adds 40lbs. https://www.vividracing.com/-p-152404252.html?gclid=Cj0KEQjw8-LnBRCyxtfMl-Cbu48BEiQA6eUMGnEhQbKj059tKzojWjMWfEeGWETyXjuoFAxzsGQR6jMaAmfY8P8HAQ
