  • Guest, UPDATE We went through the site migration runbook and completed all steps. We will need to complete the migration next week, but will leave the forums up for the weekend. A few days after maintenance, a major upgrade revision to the forum site will occur.

Thoughout my 20s and 30s I would regularly go "car camping" in my then 1984 Ford Ranger 4x4, sleeping in the canopy. Most of the time my preference was to go 4-wheeling and find a place that way. Sometimes there was a destination, other times it was just driving around until a spot was found. The Cascade and Olympic mountains have lots of forest locations and if you know where, some really great places with incredible overlooks. Also would regularly backpack several hundred miles a year back then.
Regarding my 2012 Toyota Tacoma, I have installed an All-Pro Dual Swing Out , High Clearance rear bumper. Am currently working on an Aluminum front bumper with a Smittybuilt XRC 9.5k winch, but it's not bolt-on and I have to make some mods before everything fits. Love this truck. The Canopy is an older ARE fiberglass one. It cannot handle the weight of a tent on top of it and there are very few options for Canopies that can handle ~750 lbs.
The Pacific Northwest has a lot of rain, so something like a canopy is virtually a requirement...
