Where are you sending the IP and injectors? I’ve dealt with a place in Portland on my engines. 2 1HDT and one 1HDFT. Just bought another 1HDFT that will be taken care there.
Truck looking great.
Hey Jim,
thanks. Tali will have input once the body is driving and we start the build in the back.
I figured when all said and done it will cost as much as a brand new Bronco or Jeep. But, I need to keep busy, otherwise probably be robbing banks (for excitement!).
today I finished making...
This weekend I spent doing little things. I’ll change some connectors to Deutsch. I’m missing the mating connectors to some harnesses and have unlimited supply of all Deutsch products. Also a $1500 crisper that kept after a project ended.
I can’t find the two hoses that come out of the...
Hey Sam,
The 1HDFT (FT) engine is the last mechanical engine Toyota built. It’s from the 1Hx family. 4.2 liter 6 cyl. It’s a direct injection 24 valves. It runs cooler and smoother and has more power then the 1HZ (no turbo) and 1HDT. The next one in the family is the 1HDFTE that has...
So some bad new and some good news. I am pulling the drivetrain out and swapping the engine.
I just came across a 1HDFT that a good friend sold me. Less than 100k miles. Could not resist. Would be nice to have both 80 and the troopy with the same engine. I know it's a bit insane, but none...
Started working on electrical and dash. Pedals from 80 series are in. Needed a bit of mods. It’s all good (I think…)
got support from iH8mud on the puzzle of routing the harness and all the brackets. I was so excited about taking all apart that did not take enough photos. Also the wire...
This weekend we volunteered to document dispersed campsites in the Mojave desert. NPS gave us 160 waypoints and in groups of two vehicles we navigated in no man’s land to get
all the information. Kent Reynolds did an incredible job coordinating these efforts and with the help of a few members...
We took off from the Bay Area to tour southern Arizona. Weather was fantastic. Spent one night by a lagoon with hundreds of cranes. One group at a time they took off while I was making coffee. These are the kind of days you know will be great.
Front door windows, latches and locks are in. Also the side window with Sika 221. Waiting for some wool sound insulation for the inside firewall. After that is electrical.
One more layer of heavy rubber insulation for sound. I may add 1/2" felt under. Also new heater and AC OEM are in just to check fit. I'll pull it out in order to install the electrical harness. Also today installed the 4 eXplore glazing side windows using SIKA 221. Passenger front is a...
Check for fit of the dash and steering brackets. I don't really remember how it all goes together. Puzzle.
Also windows are checked for fit.
Insulation 3 layers are next.
All good. Lucky to have friends that came and helped this morning. The body and frame mate. All fits and bolts are on the body mounts. No nuts yet.
Bfast - bagels, Alaska King Salmon cream cheese. Fresh OJ.
Drove back from Flagstaff in between two big storms. All arrived safely home. This weekend 'body on frame'. Had to negotiate to keep the doors in the house until the weekend....
Tomorrow headed back to the Bay Area with the body and doors towed on a trailer with our 60. Storm weather. Be exciting.
Can’t wait to mount this on the frame.
All you need is the right bellhousing and the correct clutch. For the 40 series you need to change the frame motor mounts and cross member and also modify a bit the transmission hump. If you need part numbers, I can dig it out.
The gas pedal is different and also the throttle cable.
Body is ready on a wood frame. Headed to Flagstaff tomorrow early AM with the 60 series landcruiser to pick it up on a trailer. Going down I’m taking a diesel engine 13Bt that I pulled from this 60. It has 15BFt now that came out of a Coaster Toyota bus from Honk Kong.
