Friday, June 29 - the AM group will leave from the Bass Pro in San Jose at 10:00 AM SHARP. Be there at 9:45 AM, fueled up and ready to go. Your trail leaders are Danny (sheepdog831), and Nate (drftsub). Danny's phone is (209) 996-9795 and Nate's phone is (916) 213-4354. The PM group will leave from Scotts Valley High School at 6:30 PM SHARP, and will be led by yours truly (Charlie, aka Bad Donkey) and Manny (emmanuel mendoza). [Note to Manny: You need a proper overlanding handle. Based on your rig, I think we should call you Habanero.] Same deal - be there at 6:15, fueled up and ready to go. Charlie's phone is (831) 359-1087, Manny's is (831) 247-0873. For Friday night, we will be staying at the Badger Flat campground near Huntington Lake. The trip is about 200 miles and should take approximately 4.5 hours. (I know, I know... a campground??? But since the second group is coming in late, we figured it was best to have a secured spot. And it's remote). Everyone should bring $10 per person for the group campsite cost and give it to me before my wife sees the credit card bill.
Saturday, June 30 - we will rise & shine and go hit the Bald Mountain trail. We are heading south from the Tamarak Snow Park to the peak, so the route is rated as MODERATE. (see description at: https://www.shaverlake.com/area-guide/summer-sports/off-road-vehicle-trails/). Stock rigs with good clearance and 4x4 should be OK with careful driving. We will head up to the top of Bald Mtn for lunch. After lunch, we will head up the Kaiser Pass Road to Mono Hot Springs. Depending on energy level and enthusiasm, we can either chill in the hot springs or hike 1 mile up to Doris Lake, a large alpine lake warmed by hot springs, and go for a swim. Cliff jumping is also available there for the brave. We can then (again, depending on the group) either eat dinner at the rustic resort, or just pack up and head for Jackass Meadows for dispersed camping and dinner.
Sunday, July 1 - we will do whatever we feel like - fishing, hot tubs, hiking, or some 4x4 trails. The motto for Sunday is semper gumby.
Bring: Everyone should bring their rig, overlanding gear, and GMRS radios. Handhelds are fine. Your trail leaders will have frequencies for you on departure.We have trained medical staff, some mechanically skilled types, plenty of recovery gear, and emergency comm systems. Participants need to provide their own water, firewood, shelter and food. Some of us have backcountry toilets (buckets with dessicant bags), so if you have those bring 'em.
