Am planning a U.P. trip for this summer running from Escanaba up to Munising and Marquette. Does anyone have any experience with any good overland routes through or around this area? I am looking for some good camping spots and back road routes/trails. I have grown up spending a lot of time in the U.P. but never up along the lake Superior South shore. Thanx

If you want to chase a couple remote water falls, Rock River and Silver (aka Silver Bell) Falls are down some two tracks. Not sure how they'll be running in the summer (more so Silver Falls than Rock Falls). They were both running like mad last October with endless days of rain. Nice little hike down to Rock River Falls. Silver Falls is about a 5 min hike, but the forest was beautiful around it.....but the summer it may only be a trickle (I don't really know).

But that was my first time up there in probably 15 yrs, so I have no other experience up there two track wise or remote camping wise.

And I've heard the black flies up there in the summer are rough. I am thinking of going up there mid may to try and minimize the bug issues.

Thanx for the info. Yes, quite familiar with the black flies, its either mosquitoes or flies up there. going to try to avoid them as much as possible. Depending on my work sched, I wouldn't be surprised if my trip ends up being more along the late May/early June time frame. I definately would like to get up there when some water is flowing. Will, most likely, have my canoe along as well so going to try to get some paddling in. I will do some research on the falls. Really appreciate the help.
