Took the family out for a day excursion on the Tip Top Mine trail north of Phoenix in the Table Mesa OHV area.
I’ve referenced this book before and it is a great resource for finding places to explore in AZ! This trail is #38 in the book.
Our first stop was an old Indian fort over looking the Aqua Fria river.
My little boy climbing the entrance to the fort
A view from on top
We continued on to the Tip Top Mine. The road was nothing cosmic, a stock rig with decent ground clearance and low range is all that is needed.
Along the road just below the mine is the remnants of some old houses
The mine is a short hike up hill
On the way home we stopped to let my boy dip his toes in the Aqua Fria
Round trip, with all the stops, it took us about 5 hours.
